okay, I want to start a photography "business" where I go to local motocross races and take pictures of everyone riding and sell them on a website like smug mug or photo reflect.

what I wanted to know is if there is any thing specific I need to know?

should have been more specific lol...

are there any types of licenses needed to do this?
am I allowed to take pictures of people and sell them? or do I need permission from the person in the picture?

Why are you posting this here at a Mac forum? Google would return all of your answers faster than the time it took you to create the topic; at least post this in a motocross forum?

I mean, I'm all for helping, but you're making this harder than it needs to be.

I figured a forum that professional photographers frequent would know the answer.

why would a motocross racer know anything about photography?

ignore this thread everyone. (or a mod could you please delete it?)

You will need to contact the promotors of the motocross to get a photo pass if you want to do professional photography. Once you have that pass you are allowed to use the photos on your professional website or business.

If you want to take a photo of an individual you would need to have them sign a permission form in order to use that type of photography in your business.

    Hope that helps.
