I have two computers:

Mac mini & Macbook

I'm giving away the Mac mini, so I swapped out the 320GB HD for a 60GB one.

I then took the 320GB HD and put it into my macbook.

The Macbook boots up perfectly, all the user accounts and files are intact, but:

When I try to do anything, like delete a file, or move a file, I need a username & password. Also, none of my settings stay intact in preferences.

The first sign that something was wrong was when I couldn't change my desktop background.

I don't know what the exact problem is, but obviously it's related to user authentication.

Any solutions to this problem other than setting up new accounts?

Try resetting the PRAM. Also try resetting permissions. What about the Mac Mini, is that running flawlessly?

The mini is perfect. It's got a brand new 60GB. I just installed Leopard on it. Not a problem.

How do you reset permissions?
