I'm running OSX 10.6.8 and am try to burn some jpegs to a DVD. I select the files I want in FINDER and right click. I select "Burn 62 items to disc" and follow the prompt to insert a blank disk. I put in DVD+R and nothing happens. After waiting 5 minutes, I click CANCEL and get the message "This disc can’t be used because it’s not recognized."
The files require 252 MB and the disk hold 4.6GB. It is a Memorex DVD+R
Any help would be much appreciated.

Computers can be very fussy as to which discs they will or won't recognise. If you just insert the dvd, does it appear on the desktop? You may have to try another brand of dvd.

No, it doesn't show up on the desktop on in FINDER. I just changed my system preferences to OPEN FINDER after inserting a blank disk and nothing happened. The funny thing is I have burned files on this drive with the same brand of disks before. I also checked Parallels to make sure it wasn't using the drive. It show NOT CONNECTED.

First hold down the option key and while holding it down click on the Apple in the top left had corner and select in the drop down select 'System Information'. Then when System Information launches select 'Disk Burning' and it will show you what the internal optical drive can do.

Also consider cleaning out your DVD/CD drive using the steps in this blog post. See if that helps.
