I have a problem with displaying Hindi and Bengali letters in all of my browsers (strange, there's no problem with Chinese). There are literally empty boxes instead of the letters. I'm on the mac pro (retina) updated to mavericks.

All the forums I found say that my browsers should display all foreign characters by default and there should be nothing to set up. Few system updates ago I didn't have this problem at all.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Gloria

font issue?

I have seen similar empty boxes when the browser is trying to display a font that has been disabled or not installed.
Use OS X's FontBook to check for related fonts. Use the Edit Menu to check for duplicate fonts while you are there.
A reinstall of the latest OS may help too, assuming it reinstalls the fonts required.

This could be your solution:
http://hindikeyboard.indiapress.org/
or
http://vikku.info/indian-language-unicode-converter/hindi-unicode-converter.html

You need a way of translating to/from Unicode. Search more about Unicode, but for your basics understanding. Unicode is a universal computer language that all computers can decode/translate and understand.

Thanks guys, installing the fonts helped! Was just surprised that mac doesn't support hindi script by default.
