Hi guys,

I've tried searching high and low but can't find any answers on this - maybe i'm not searching with the right details.
I have noticed that on Safari, every time I download something inside of Safari, a grey safari icon appears and stays over the top of everything. Every Safari window, every finder window - they sit on my desktop etc, I can't understand why. It goes away if I close Safari completely, but it will happen next time I download something.
I've attached some screenshots below - one is showing it within Safari after I've set 4 things to download elsewhere. The other is on Finder, while Safari is still running.

Could anyone advise why this is happening?

Thank you,

When I have issues like this, first thing I try on an IOS device is a hard reset, if it’s Mac OS, I hit Restart. Fixes strange things like this most times.

I've tried to restart multiple times with no luck - it's done it since before the last update too :(
Thanks for the reply though, appreciate it.

Sorry to bump guys - anyone got any idea?
Really driving me crazy :(
What hardware are you using? It is most likely some graphics driver problem, so it would be good to know if others with your hardware are seeing the same.

I have a 2015 13” MacBook Pro, i5.
It’s like the icons just get stuck when the download icon would swish up to the downloads button on the toolbar. It’s like it’s not completing that animation.

Try Firefox. It's a really fast browser now.

Other suggestion: clear Safari's cache.

Fingers crossed.
Good luck.
Tried to clear the Cache, no difference :(
I did briefly try Firefox but I find it quite laggy compared to Safari.
Thanks though.

I have the same issue. Every time I download a credit card statement, for example, and Preview opens it up, I get this icon. If I do it again, I'll get another icon.

Searching the web, some have said it's related to the handoff feature. When I disable that, on Mac and all iOS devices, it still happens. Only way I've found to get rid of them is to quit Safari. Many people report the same issue. I'm running High Sierra but I believe this was happening before upgrading to that version.
