A few months back my oldish Macbook Pro died, and I made an image of its hard disk. I have that image on my (still oldish) Mac Pro. Both of these systems have Lion installed. I want to import my archive email which I had on the laptop (now only on the disk image) in nicely organized folders by year, into Mail on the Mac Pro. I did the following on the Mac Pro:
- Mounted the laptop disk image
- Went to File -> Import Mailboxes
- Selected "Import data from: Apple Mail"
- Selected the /Volumes/$image/Users/$name/Library/Mail folder
- Waited a long time
The mail imported, but the problem is that the directory structure is exactly the same as it is on the disk image, which is a deeply nested folder structure with a bunch of hashes and numbers (see attached images). The structure I had previously set up is Archive/$year/$account . My question is: how can I import these emails from the backup and keep my intended directory structure?
