iPod touch Problem updating firmware

Itouch 3rd Gen
Firmware 3.1.3

I hacked this, then I decided to update it to 4.0 firmware through itunes;;
and now my itouch is stuck on this recovery mode, where the screen stays on the picture of the USB cord pointing to the iTunes logo.

Anyone know how to fix this? I tried rebooting but doesn't work

Put it in DFU mode and then try.
