I have a jailbroken Touch. After I install oktoprep and try to upgrade the firmware I get a message something like "preparing Ipod for upgrade" but it seems to stall and I get a 1602 error.

I've done everything I can think of and keep getting the 1602 error. I've uninstall ed itunes and reinstalled it still get the error. I get it while trying the upgrade from apple. I get the error while trying to upgrade with a downloaded firmware file.

Am I out of luck on this upgrade?

Are you upgrading straight from the Update button in Itunes? The 1602 error is usually a problem with the version of the firmware you are using, but it seems strange that you would get that if you are just clicking Update on Itunes.

When you uninstall Itunes you should also uninstall Apple Mobile Device, Apple Software Update and Quicktime and then reinstall Itunes (which will install them all). This is of course assuming you are on Windows.
