Sometimes when I wake my Mac whatever window, Safari, Mail, etc, will be in the upper left corner and I can't do anything with it except make it smaller. I can't move it or make it bigger until I close it and restart, then it restarts normal

Is nobody else getting this problem since upgrading to Mavericks? I'm about ready to do a clean install, maybe go back to mountain lion. I'd love some ideas on how to fix this issue first.

Same here, your not alone, couldn't find a solution yet. What I noticed is that not all apps are behaving like this. Mostly non-Apple apps are having problems, so I suppose it's a compatibility problem with the new OS, multi-monitor support etc.

Thanks. It happens mostly with Apple apps for me. Safari, iTunes, etc.

It's really annoying. I am glad to hear it's not only me though. If you find any other threads, like on Apple Support Forums, let me know. Thanks

I haven't found anything about this except this thread. I now have to close all apps whenever I leave my computer for longer than 20 minutes, otherwise I know when I go back that I'll have apps I'll have to edit and restart anyway. I've noticed that apps will also move completely off the screen, they will be missing but if I "hide" the app I'll see from the animation that it's actually somewhere above the display.

This is what it looked like this morning. All 3 windows should have been in view along with 2 or 3 more that were open but completely moved off screen. The window that moved to the upper right corner said something like:

The screen resolution is not optimal for iPhoto

So I wonder if something is changing with the resolution when it goes into sleep mode or something.

I'm running into the same issue. Seems to occur mostly with Chrome but I've had a few other apps do the same. The only thing that works for me is to close the app and reopen. If it happens with Finder, I just kill it via the terminal.

So glad I found this thread, not glad of course that others are having this problem :)

I am finding the same, it happened on my iMac (mid 2007) I thought it was just as its an old machine, could be corrupt files around or maybe Mavericks is just a little bit too much for it.... today I migrated to a new MacBook Pro, just came back to it and the app store window was in the top left. There must be others with this problem that we can look too, only thing I can think of is there is a setting or file that was carried over on the migration.

Have any of you found a solution.

Hasn't happened to me but have you tried using the utility in Onxy to reset all folders and contents. Not exactly the same thing but might fix it?

and another thread over in Apple Discussions forum here:

Windows Stuck In Akward Positions After Maverick Update

FYI a temporary workaround is to change your dock location settings
e.g. if you have your dock set on the bottom, change it to the right, then back to the bottom. this un-sticks the window.

the problem still occurs periodically & randomly it seems. no clear idea on the trigger. maybe related to fast-user switching and display sleep

of course, what we really need is a proper bug fix from Apple...
