Hopefully someone can help me with this - I have an iphoto library with about 9800 images that i have set to be shared via itunes with my new Apple TV (by selecting share all photos, albums etc...). When the screensaver comes on, however, it seems to only cycle through the earliest 100 or so images in my library. Shouldn't this be random, in which case I'd see some more recent images occasionally? Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this? Thanks!

Is it the new AppleTV or old?

The old can copy your entire library onto its hard drive and can randomly show photos from your entire library during the screensaver. However, I have noticed that it is not totally random. It will tend to repeat photos from a certain event, but still seems random enough, showing both new and old photos.

The new AppleTV cannot access your entire library, it can only access a single album or event. I use the album of photos from the last 12 months. I guess you could create an album and put your whole library into it. However, that may cause problems. I think that I have read that the iTunes reduces the resolution of your photos to match the resolution of your AppleTV then stores those smaller photos on the flash memory of the AppleTV -- so that the AppleTV screen saver will work even when not connected. I would be concerned that a huge photo library might eat up too much of your 8 gigs needed for streaming etc. Maybe there is a limit on the number of photos that can be transfered so that streaming is not effected.

    thanks

Thanks - it's an ATV2. I've set it to just use the "last 12 months" album but it's still not randomizing that album. It gets stuck one one event and just cycles that particular event - it's pretty annoying. It's not a huge deal but seems like random would be a pretty easy thing to accomplish!

    8Gb Limit

Yes, I'm having the same problem.

Apparently the 2nd generation AppleTV can only stream 8Gb at a time, and so it selects the first 8Gb of photos it finds in your album for use in the screensaver.

    That's why this happens.

Don't know of any way around it.

If you find one, let me know!

That may be the case, but my "last 12 months" album is only 5.8GB and it's still not randomizing that, but rather it gets stuck on certain events within that album and completely ignores the rest of the album. Annoying.

I'm also interested in an answer. My designated library contains 1000 photos and yet only 10% get played and repeated what feels like way too often.

Having the same issue and it definitely seems to be because of the onboard 8GB of memory. It seems that it keeps the same photos in the memory, even if I select a new album of photos it still has numerous photos from the previous album and it will only show a hundred or so.

Very disappointing, anyone have a fix? Assuming apple can fix this in an update. It does not seem that its a limitation of the 8GB of memory, its like it cant keep streaming the images, it keeps certain ones in the storage.

Streaming my photos from Aperture and have the same problem. If that is the case with only 8GB on board that's really silly. I hope that can be changed in an update.
