I have an ipod touch 2G and am having problems with certain downloads, in particular things like downloading tracks on tap tap revenge and youtube. The speed is so slow that after 10 minutes trying to download a track from tap tap revenge and the progress bar about 50% complete, it comes up with an error message saying it was unable to complete the download.
The wireless connection i have is not particularly slow and safari works absolutely fine on the ipod. I run my ibook off the same network and downloading torrents etc. on it is ok and fairly fast, avg. 150kb/s. It's very strange because when I first bought my ipod i was staying in a hotel with extremely slow wifi, my laptop was downloading at only 4kb/s the whole time, yet i was amazed at how fast youtube was still able to stream videos and downloading t.t.r. tracks only took around a minute.
Another strange thing that just started happening a couple of weeks ago is that my email account set up in Mail (both on my ipod and my ibook g4) suddenly stopped being able to send outgoing messages. I can still receive my emails with no problem but whenever i try to send out a message it says my outgoing server is incorrect (it definitely is not and it just suddenly stopped working one day when i didnt change any of the settings. I contacted my the domain provider GoDaddy and they said it was not a fault at their end).
This problem has been driving me absolutely crazy and I cant figure out what's wrong. Because my ipod worked so well when i first got it and due to the sudden problems with the Mail application, I am inclined to think its my internet connection rather than the ipod itself. But page loading and downloading torrents is absolutely fine, so what on earth is going on??? Unfortunately the company in town who provide my internet do not speak English (I am in Thailand) so i cant explain the problem further than 'internet no work'. I need to try and pinpoint the most likely cause first and then go to them prepared with translations of what i think is wrong, because if i simply say the internet doesnt work, they will just load up a page, prove it works, and then say its a problem with my ipod (which it could be, but i dont think so).
So does anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Why is downloading on my computer fine but not on my ipod, and does my problem with the outgoing mail server even have anything to do with it? Any help would be rreeaaalllyy appreciated, I'm at a complete loss. 😕 Thanks!
