I haven't seen this on here yet so here goes:

I have a 1st gen ipod touch and after the recent 3.0 upgrade, I have had problems with my itunes account when I purchase apps in the app store or in the wifi music store using my ipod touch. My log in and password are both correct and when I purchase apps I input my password and it says "password is incorrect." This is wrong cause I input my password on my laptop using the itunes program and everything is fine. It then takes me to this page that asks to reset my password and it says "username not found"

I have been using the same account for years purchasing apps ever since I bought my ipod touch. And now with the 3.0 update, I can't seem to purchase anything on my ipod.

Any ideas on what should I do? I emailed Apple about it, they sent me a link on their help page but it was not a successful permanent fix.

In a nut shell, it said for me to sign off my account on my laptop using itunes, then re-sign on, then sync my ipod and it should be fine. Well, it was fine, then the moment I unplug my ipod and try to purchase an app it gives me the "wrong password" error again.

 :(

It's not just you. I have the same issue as well.

Can either of you try going to the Store section in settings, signing out, and then signing back in? This is without syncing or reconnecting to a computer system.

on my ipod touch, no it says that any info I put in is invalid or when I try to reset my password on my ipod it says my account does not exist.

seems like Apple is stumped too, I emailed their customer support and I received feedback from "Andrew" but for about 24 hours now no reply yet.. :(

alright, just to keep people informed who have this problem:

I just received an email from "Andrew" over at iTunes support and said that those who created an iTunes account using their AOL Screen name is affected and Apple is aware of the situation and is working on a solution. He also said to sit tight as Apple will email those who are affected in the near future.

So there is hope afterall..

Good. Let's hope they resolve this soon. I am also affected and find it hard to believe apple would go too long without people trying to purchase through itunes - their bread and butter.

alright got another email from Andrew over at iTunes support stating that Apple is still working out a solution

I had this problem (with a 2nd generation Touch) and was able to get it solved after a couple of hours and 3 phone calls to Apple tech support. You need to call tech support and have your AOL itunes account changed to an apple account.

Once this was done, I was able to download applications and music, and sign in/out to my account directly on the Touch.

Instead of me calling, i emailed iTunes customer support and within a week my issue was solved. My account was also changed to an Apple account and now all is well. Sucks how this affected people who use their AOL screen name as their iTunes log in.

Anyone know how i can email Itunes regarding this AOL password issue? Since I have a 1st gen ipod touch I no longer have a warranty but I'm still having this problem with my aol password. I tried to find an email address or go through the online assistant, but as soon as i entered my serial number i was told my issue could not be solved.

I filled out this form here:
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/

for category i put "Account or Billing"
and for sub-category i put "I can't sign in to my iTunes account"

then write in the little box about your problem and they will email you personally within 24 hours.

They are extremely helpful. Good Luck coolextrmguy

I didn't email. I called apple support at 1-800-myapple and my problem was solved while I was on the phone with tech support - took less than 5 minutes once I was on the phone with someone and we had figured out what was wrong and how to solve the problem.
