Problem with MacPro 5,1

Hello
I have a problem with my old but efficient MacPro 5,1 (Early 2009): The Mac doesn't want to shut down. I zap the PRAM, then reset the SMC so the problem disappears for 2 or 3 times.... and reappears.
I'm with Mavericks 10.9.5, 2.93 Quad-Core Intel Xeon, ATI Radeon 5770. My system is on a SSD from OWC (Mercury Electra 3G 480 GB)
If anybody has a solution I would be happy

Have you tried a fresh install of OS X? I would back up the system with time machine then format the drive with disk utility from the installer and preform a clean install. After it finishes, don't migrate time machine data, create a new account and make sure the problem you're experiencing isn't related to something from the previous install. If the issue is gone, go ahead and open migration assistant and recover your data and applications. Hope this helps.

BTW, it sounds like you actually own a 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 that was flashed to the 2010/12 5,1 firmware based on your description. Did you perform the flash?

If the machine keep restarting itself, most likely it's software related.

Quite a few users report that the machine don't want to shut down in Macericks, but perfectly normal in Windows.

So, the same suggestion. Try a new user account. If still can't fix, flesh install.

Or, if you are OK with Yosemite, you may use upgrade to 10.10.5. IMO, 10.10.5 is very OK for daily operation. No need to stay with Mavericks if no specific reason.

Yes I was thinking of upgrading my motherboard so I update from 4,1 to 5,1 but the upgrade with OWC is too expensive...
Thanks a lot for your help you both I will try to install Yosemite this WE ( when I will have some free time) and if it's happening again I will try a new user account then (I hope not) a fresh reinstall.

Installed Yosemite and everything is correct so far
I just lost almost all my folders icones
Clear the cache and run Onyx but nothing happened

The UI in Yosemite is (for me) too bright, especially the icons. You can use Liteicon and some icons from the web (Deviant Art etc.), to get some sanity back, especially the default folder icon and the trash cans.

Also check out the System Preferences/Accessibilty/Dsplay, Reduce transparency and Increase contrast. You may prefer to have these checked. Depends on the monitor and user of course.
