Hi everyone,

My mom just got a new macbook yesterday, I helped her set it up and transfered everything over from her old ibook etc...

Everything works great except for when she tries to send an email, when she's composing an email, the send button is there but when you click it nothing happens.

The Mail settings and everything are all the same as they were on her ibook which has no problems sending mail.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Repairing Permissions?

Just kidding :)

Humm, are you sure that the SMTP server is correctly configured? What kind of e-mail account is your mom using? Gmail? Yahoo?

Anyway, there's no logic reason for the "Send" button not working, I've configured a lot of e-mail accounts using Mail.app and I never had that problem.

Please re-check the SMTP settings and post your account domain here if possible. I hope it isn't Windows Live Mail you're trying to use because, as far as I know, it's a proprietary Microsoft e-mail client that doesn't like POP access from any application other than Outlook or maybe Entourage.

I'm not a big expert on this so, hopefully some more experienced user can give you further help, just give it a little time, everyone ends up giving a suggestion here on MacRumors.

Actually it's not even that the "send" button doesn't do anything when clicked, but it is actually grayed out, also now for some reason it wont go into preferences when I click it.

She just got a new MacBook and transfered all her stuff over from her iBook, everything else seems to work, and she receives mail fine. I am clueless.

similar problem

Hi, I'm having a similar problem with my mac mail,
it was working fine up until yesterday, when downloaded an email setup file application thingy to set up an account, and as soon as i used that to set it up, the emails came through fine but then i couldn't 'reply' or compose' with that account or with any of my other accounts,
i tried removing the account, but i still can't compose emails,
but emails are coming in fine
