Sometimes my dock's magnificiation will stop working and it wont display the names of the apps when i hover the mouse over them. This just happens randomly. A reboot fixes it and I already tried zapping PRAM but it still decides to stop working randomly.

Any ideas on what may have gone amiss?

EDIT: I just noticed a resolution change also fixes it, but I still wonder what is wrong. I have a 15" DL Powerbook running 10.4.3

I've run into this problem a couple of times in the last month or so. I found that whenever it happened, it would have been after I had alot of memory intensive apps open for a good long while. Like you I always just rebooted and it went away. I'm on 10.4.2 so I guess its not an update specific problem.

do you have any hot corners? do they work when your dock freezes?

keep a terminal window open, and when the dock freezes type

Code:
killall dock -HUP

if that doesnt reopen the dock, and hot corners, then ONLY fix i have found in the 3 weeks of battling this problem every day, is a reinstall of OSX. i havent got a clue what caused it, which is really annoying as i dont know what i could potentially do to bring it back
