Hi Guys,

My first post here and looking for some advice
Few weeks ago my Mac started playing up and wouldn’t load up properly. It would load the Apple logo and get to my password page then get to about 90 percent and fail and re boot it’s self. It also has like Grey and purple lines through the screen?
See photo attached

It would do this about 20 times before successfully logging in. But twice it’s split the screen and crashed again.

I’ve done all the diagnostic test etc and all came back fine....

Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry about the white boxes on the images

Thank you
David

Is this a 2011 MacBook Pro 15"?

Have you researched "RadeonGate" ??

Yes it is, I’ve just researched radeon gate and it seems very much the same problems I’ve been having
I found a section on the Apple website about recalling MacBook program but entered my serial number and came back with they stopped recalling products last year :(

If any one that has had the same experiences as mine any information on repairing it would be Amazing!

Thank you

You can find here post of switching to the internal GPU.
Other than that you need a new logic board.
But it might come cheaper to sell this and buy a 2012 cMBP as this has less problems with failing GPU

I have been quoted £400 for a replacement, does that sound about right? Very disappointed in Apple as it sounds like this a fault in production/hardware but my error never appeared during the re call program I saw

To be fair, 6-7 years is a good innings for the hardware despite the well publicised flaw. And £400 sounds about right but I would be planning to replace it sooner rather than later - and keep backups of important data.

I'm in the same boat. I was quoted 500 USD. Debating if I should do it. What are you going to do?

I wouldn't spend that much money. Maybe u find a much cheaper used board on eBay.

If you can't change it by yourself I would just buy a newer used machine.

A 2013 15" rMBP goes for about 900€. Sell your old for 200€ and call it a day

Not to sure buddy, don’t really want to spend that kind of money on a machine that cost me £1500.... ridiculous really.
Apple keep fobbing me off saying it’s a vintage model and they can’t do anything about it
Im consider buying the board and replacing it myself
Keep my options open first tho mate. I will keep you updated
