Hello,
I'm have apple mac mini 2012 with mavericks 10.9.2 installed.
I have usb flash drive of SanDisk (2GB) formatted (via Disk Utility) to FAT32.
The problem is that the free space that the mac shown to me is not the actual free space of the flash drive.

According to my mac I have only 833MB free space but It doesn't make sense because the files that are located in the flash drive weight only few megabytes.

We don't know this at all. Look at the files on the USB thumb drive in list view.

You can try to show hidden files that might be in your flash drive by following these steps:

  1. Open Terminal found in Finder > Applications > Utilities
  2. In Terminal, paste the following: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
  3. Press return
  4. Hold ‘alt’ on your keyboard, then right click on the Finder icon in the dock and click Relaunch.

Relaunch Finder by right clicking the Finder Icon whilst hosting the ‘alt’ key

This will show all hidden files. To hide them again, follow the same steps but replace the Terminal command with:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
