There is a loud sound coming from the right side of the computer, it seems to be near the speaker. The machine is brand new, and appeared when I first turned it on. Any ideas?

The sound doesn't go away.

Also, when the screen is bright, there is a high pitched sound.

Ignoring the screen sound for the moment, what sort of sound is the original one? Also, does it change at all or is it constantly the same pitch and volume? :)

Hey folks, the only moving parts inside a computer are the HD and the fans. That is if you're not using the optical drive. I would say it's probably the fan(s). Come on people, use your brain ...

Mate, look up CPU whine and MacBook. There are many components in a computer that can make sound, starting with the speakers. ;)

Try going to one of those Apple defect sites and looking up "MacBook Mooing."
That might give you a fix on it. Apparently, this is a very common problem.

I don't think it's the moo, it sounds nothing like that. The sound is always there, with a constant volume.

Does it sound something like chchchchchchchch, like the fan is hitting something each time it is going around?

My MBP had this noise when I first got it, as soon as I turned it on. I just took it in last week to have it fixed and they are replacing the right side fan.

I would take it in to have it checked out.

I'm going to the Apple store right now. They said to bring it with the box and receipt, so I guess they're exchanging it. It acually does sound a little like that I think.. but the volume never changes, and it never goes away.

It was replaced again! The Apple Store Roosevelt Field said that the problem was the fan and they replaced the computer, and gave me a glossy screen.

I would be EXTREMELY interested to hear your impressions of the glossy screen compared to the previous satin screen.
It is a lot brighter, and the colors are a lot better. On my desk, there is nothing that would make a glare in the screen, but outside or infront of a window/light, there's a glare. I like it more than the matte screen, because outside you couldn't really see the matte screen at all anyway, so its ok.
