problem with poof

how do you make the poof application reappear if youve made it disappear?

Hahaha!!! Install BossPrefs. You can access Poof from in there. I have mine hidden so I don't see it all the time and I just get it from BossPrefs now.

I have that problem too... except my BossPrefs is hidden too! I don't know how it happened but when i clicked on Poof! from inside BossPrefs, both poof and bossprefs were in the hidden category. Obviously, i clicked on them to make then visible again, and exited bossprefs. As usual my screen refreshed (or whatever you call it, happens after poof closes too), and bossprefs and poof were still missing!

For some reason whenever i click on poof and bossprefs to be in the visible section, when i go back to the visible section they are not there anymore! then i go back to the hidden section and there they are, and no matter how many times i click it to make it visible it always goes back to the hidden section.

i've tried removing it, restarting my iPhone, installing it again, and doing the same thing, but it just keeps hiding the icons.

How do you get to BossPrefs or Poof! if the icon is hidden? And how do I fix my problem?

That's odd... I'd start by removing them both. Then this is exactly what I did:
Installed Poof, hid SMS, installed BossPrefs, From BossPrefs I clicked Poof and then hid Poof. Now I have just BossPrefs showing and no Poof. I don't even know if you need to install Poof to get it to work with BossPrefs though.

I don't know if you're that familiar with what Poof does. It writes something to the plist info for the app and just says "hidden = true" or something. I guess you can SSH to your phone, or use MobileTerminal, find the app and edit it's plist manually with VI or nano.

I don't know exactly where the files are located, I'm new to the hack and iPhone communities.

With some fooling around I found out where it is. You can probably find the info online somewhere too, but oh well.

1. Get the latest version of MobileTerminal and Nano from Cydia
2. Open MobileTerminal (or ssh to your iPhone)
3. Log in as root [su root] > Enter your root password, if you haven't set one it's "alpine"
4. Go to /Applications directory by typing [cd /Applications]
5. Now either go [cd Poof.app] or [cd BossPrefs.app]
6. Now you can type [nano Info.plist]
7. This should have you in the editor. You can tap the text screen and use the pie menu to choose More>nano>PgDown to scroll down to where you will see the word "hidden" and some code wrapped around it.
8. Remove the attribute "hidden" and the empty tags around it.
9. Save, Exit, and Respring your phone and you should be set.

I did not test this, I have not had this issue, but I'm pretty sure this is all Poof actually does to the files, so it should work the same way manually.

Good luck! Anything happens you can always remove and reinstall Poof or BossPrefs to fix it.
