Problem with shutdown

i have MBP late 2008 15 inch
when i want to shutdown the lap is closing and open again
so it make restart instead of shutdown

i think that problem from hardware .... Am i right ?

plz how can i fix it i can't shutting down my MBP

to me is a software problem. try to backup everything and do a clean install...

First make sure that you have everything backed up.

When you try to shut it down do you shut it down from the apple dropdown menu? If yes hold down the physical button and see if that does anything
