Received my 2019 MacBook Pro today. My heart sunk when I opened the box. There appeared to be a scuff mark on the lid. Luckily I managed to polish out the mark so it is hardly visible now.

Just wondering what people’s thoughts are, could it of been glue or thermal paste? Still unsure if I should return it but it seems a lot of hassle bearing In mind it’s hardly visible now

Did you get that MBPro direct from Apple? (or from some other reseller)
Are those pictures from before, or after you cleaned the lid?
Is there any evidence of pressure damage when you look at the screen, either with a dark, or light background?

I am usually tolerant about minor appearance defects, and have purchased "open-box" units with minor bumps and scratches - but those are something you might expect with returned items, not with brand-new in a sealed box from Apple. Even a refurb, if you did get it from Apple, should not have that kind of visible marks, especially not on the top cover.

I say, return... Unless you can now, somehow, "un-see" those scuff marks.

[doublepost=1560018668][/doublepost]Thanks for your response DeltaMac.
Was purchased from Amazon UK brand new sealed box.
The box it came in was not damaged, no signs of pressure.
The mark is extremely hard to see now but I’m still debating if I’m better off returning it for another. I think it must of been glue or some other matter. There was a bigger mark around the Apple logo that wiped off as well.

The photos are before I lightly polished the mark out

Return it.

I opened and returned 7 2018 silver mbps which were all bto. I found cosmetic damages out of every single one of them. I ended up ordering a 2019 b/c my 2018 mbp was a month old (6th replacement) and apple agreed to a return. The 2019 model I have right now is perfect. I'm meticulous when it comes to apple products due to the sheer prices I pay for them. I called the online apple store and talked to a manager about cosmetic damages on these very expensive machines. The guy was apologetic but didn't offer me anything else other than sentimentality.

Don't settle on anything you're not 100% happy w/.

It's a surface finish and like all subject to scratching and or blemishes, short of DLC wear & tear will occur. If I come back to the Mac it will be Silver, classic, timeless and doesn't show the scratches :p

[doublepost=1560109563][/doublepost]Changed it for a silver one today, this one seems flawless as far as I can see. Always had space gray and I’m glad I went with silver this time around, it looks nice and sleek
