I've had my Macbook Pro for nearly two or three years now and I never really had a problem with the battery. However, I recently got a new charging cord when my old one broke. Since this time, when I have the charger plugged in and go to remove the battery pack (to conserve energy) it just turns off the system like it's in sleep mode. It'll only come back when I put the battery back in.

I also got a new battery a few months prior to the new charger, and I can't remember if I took the battery pack out with the new battery and the old charger. So I'm not sure if it's a problem with the new cord, or the new battery.

If anyone could give me some tips to try and fix the problem, that would be great. Thanks!

It's unlikely that removing the battery would have any significant impact on your energy usage. I don't know the answer to your question, but I don't think you need to trouble yourself with it.
