Problem with the sound on my macbook.

I have a new macbook and I am having trouble with the sound after I unplug my headphones. Once I unplug my headphones, my sound will not come out of my regular macbook speakers. When I push the volume up, down, or mute, it shows a circle with a line through it like saying "no sound" and the headphones hole is a red light. When I go to "Sound" under System Preferences, under digital output it says the selected device has no output controls.

Does anyone know how to help me?
 
Do you see a little light shining out from the headphone jack?

I never experienced this myself, but I read a post a month ago about a macbook that somehow got fooled into thinking it was connected via optical output. The person had the same issue with not being allowed to change the volume. They suggested taking a small wire and pressing in on the microswitch inside, which should reset it to normal headphone/or speaker if no headphone is connected mode. I don't know if I would start poking around inside the computer myself, I would let the apple store people do it just in case.
