Problem with Word document and macros - virus?

I've searched the forum for answers and have only found a few dating back to 2006. Recently I opened a Word document attachment on my MAC sent from a PC user. Now, I am being asked to enable/disable macros when I use WORD. I sent out an attachment that I created and PCs are stating that a virus is detected: W97m.Thus.A. ANY HELP???????
