Whenever I call someone or receive a call the caller can not hear me but I can hear them perfectly fine. It is not a problem with signal because I have had this same problem continuously in different areas. The mic is not broken because I can still record my voice using the Griffin iTalk application. It has not been in water and the water indicator is white like it is suppose to be. I have tried doing a factory restore and that does not work. I think I might take it back to the att store however I bought the phone off eBay and I do not pay for the unlimited media plan (Im in college and there is wifi all over campus) but do have at&t. My phone is not unlocked or jailbreaked. Do you think they will replace my phone since they currently sell iPhones without contracts now? Also if you know how to fix this problem let me know too.

Well, if you take it to AT&T and they won't replace it, you won't be any worse off than you are now. Give it a try.

I went to the ATT store today and they said that they do not do replacements no matter what the circumstance is. You have to either go to an apple store or call apple and mail it in. I think I will go to the apple store or try calling. I am wondering if just waiting till 3.0 will fix this problem. I have read other forums saying that they had this problem too and when they got a new phone it still happened again. Maybe its just a huge flaw on apple's part. I am kind of getting sick of iPhone's. They have a lot of flaws and are too delicate. But on the other hand they do some amazing stuff.

I have the exact same problem lately. It's my second iPhone 3G since 7/2008, my first one was replaced due to the infamous 'crack'. Anyway, I had similar problem with my old unlocked Nokia 6682 phone before with T-mobile. Since I bought the Nokia phone from retail, I had to send it back for repair.

Meanwhile, I scheduled an appointment with the Mac Genius and see how it goes.

I went to the apple store today and told them about my problem. They obviously checked for water damage and then they tested my phone by making a phone call and said that they will give me a replacement. I knew they would give me replacement. But after that was the scary part because I have att but I dont have the iPhone plan with the unlimited data. However all they check for is that I have an att account and since it says ATT on the phone and there is an ATT sim card they didn't really check like I thought they would. I thought they were going to see exactly like what plan I had and made sure that I pay the unlimited data etc. but they don't. They just gave me a replacement phone. So if you bought a iphone without a contract from apple, att or ebay you can put your att sim card in it and it will work and if it fails in a couple months you can take it to apple and they will replace it as long as the phone is faulty and you didn't water damage it or like smash it on the ground.

Apple replaced mine this morning. The Mac Genius used the retail store phone and tested it out. I asked him why does it happen and he simply answered he doesn't know however he has seen this before.

He pull out the phone with 4/9/2009 date on it with the serial number started with 5K913.
