So I just installed the Security Update 2020-005. In addition to much increased memory usage after reboot, my Aerial screensaver also stopped working. So I uninstalled Aerial and reinstalled the latest version. It shows up in the list of screensavers like before, but when I click on it, the entire list of screensavers disappears! Then I have to reboot to even see the list of screensavers again.

Anyone have any hints or suggestions?

I had nothing but problems after updates and Security installs. I saw a thread where it was suggested that you run "Onyx". I have never really had it do anything for me, so I have not really used it. Ran it and WOW! all fixed. You might try it. Make sure you get the correct version for your installed OS.

I tried running OnyX and it didn't do much. So I reinstalled Mojave from a backup disk and everything is back to normal. I also reinstalled Safari 14, but I'm certainly not installing any more security updates anytime soon.

So I left the machine plugged in overnight after updating to 005, running Onyx maintenance...

Now there's 12 GB used.

Running Onyx and letting it sit did absolutely nothing for me.

and to add to the indignity, a swap file opened up too.

I'm tracking the issue here.

Thanks! Please keep us updated.

To resume, even with Safari 14 uninstalled and 13.1.2 installed on top of 2020-005, memory usage at boot is still a tiny bit higher than 2020-004. 3.9 - 4gb vs 4.5.

I can’t however attest for the other bugs (screensaver, slugginess, user account) as I didn’t test for that and my USB3 « crash test dummy » drive is really sluggish with APFS.

The weird console message disappeared however...

I installed Security Update 2020-005 and my late 2013 iMac became so slow it was unusable (even Safe boot was effected). After trying everything else I decided to do a clean reinstall with migration from Time Machine. Interesting thing is Safari is back to 12.1.2 and I think I had installed Safari 14 before the update. Another thing I noticed is despite the hourly updates to the Time Machine drive the version this reinstalled was from 10:00 AM when I did the clean reinstall with migration thing at 1030 PM. So it looks like the issue also effects time machine back ups.
