Screen Shot 2018-04-14 at 09.49.51.png I have a late 2009 iMac running OS X 10.11.6. I took a Mac update and it messed up everything.
Did a clean install using the original disks then updated back up to 10.11.6 but my machine is now running so sluggish. It was fine before this mess started. Now 2 out 5 times the screen freezes on the apple logo and I get all this text that is too fast to read? I have included some screen shots. I would be very thankful for any advice. Have you tried contacting Apple Support about it? Or googling it to see if anyone else has the issue.

It this an HDD? Maybe the update/reinstall triggered an about-to-die drive. Or some cache files went berserk, try deleting everything in /var/folders but NOT /zz (I know, some Voodoo involved).

Did you wipe the drive before reinstall? If not try that after a backup or use DiskWarrior to fix a damaged directory. Just the other day the MacBook Air from a customer refused to boot after closing and reopening the lid, just switching off half way through startup screen. His face when I asked about the latest backup (mid 2016 as we figured out later). DiskWarrior to the rescue - again, like dozens of times before.
