Problems Copying 7GB File To External Drive

I am trying to copy a 7GB .dmg file from my Macbook Pro onto my external hard drive (which is Mac formatted) but every time I try, I just get 'an unexpected error occurred. error code: 0'.

Can anyone suggest why this could be happening? Is there any way round it?

The dmg may be corrupted. Try compressing it (right-click) to see if it copies, then decompress it on your destination.

Same here.

Another option, is to make a new DMG file from the original one if you can decompress the original one.
