Guys,
I have tried about 100 times to update my phone and my wiife's phone in iTunes and keep getting this error message.
Is there another way to update our phones without using iTunes??????

Are you using Windows? If so, this is what I did for my iphone 4 but not sure how it works on a Mac.

Edited: Find the file to download at this web site:

Edited: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

Then open itunes and connect your phone.

When your phone shows in itunes, hold down the Shift key and click on update.
Navigate to the folder and file you downloaded and click on Open.
Your phone will now update.

That's it.

Download and save to your computer this file:

I would do it on the other computer.

Please note that the file I directed you to is only for iphone 4. You did not say which iphone you have. If you don't have the iphone 4, you would need a different file.

Sorry
I forgot to mention that we both use a 3GS iPhone and use a PC computet

OK I Tried all this and when the file downloaded to my desktop it was a zipped file and when I clicked update > shift a box opened but it could not find the file. I tried unzipping the folder and still iTunes could not find the file.
Atttached is the unzipped folder

When you download it from the internet you gotta rename/save it as .ipsw file
Not .zip
Then itunes will recognize it. Dont unzip it just delete the zip file and download it again.
Save as
Then save as type select all files
And then change the end of the file from .zip to .ipsw and click save.

When you download the file, keep it as it is on your computer. Do not unzip it.
iTunes will not find the file on its own. When iTunes opens the box for the file, after you shift+update, you have to further navigate to your desktop folder to point to the file yourself. iTunes does not open directly to your desktop.
