Problems installing new drive

Installed a new hard drive in my MBP but now I'm getting a few problems


A) I run a Time Machine backup, but it only gets so far before it hangs up an just stops

B) I've also tried a clean install, and it also hang up and doesn't go any furthe.

Any help?

What exact HDD, MBP and Mac OS X version are we talking about?
