I am having problems installing Office 2004 for Mac.
When I attempt to install it, I get through the installation process up until it asks to provide information. At this point I get a beach ball and it stops working.
I am pretty sure that I have removed all the software from the test drive version of office, and I have all applications closed down. What could be the problem?

One thing I noticed is that when I look at the application in the activity monitor it says it is a Power PC process, while all other processes are Intel. It says this for both the Installation Process as well as another process that apears when the installation messes up called '(null)'
I am new to the mac os so I don't know if this is a problem or not.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Office 2004 isn't Intel native (it runs under Rosetta emulation - the upcoming Office 2008 is universal, though), so performance can be a bit iffy. It should, however, still install.

One option is to ignore the installer and just drag the Office folder from the CD to your /Applications directory. The few support files required, along with your licence, should then be installed on first launch

When I try doing that it installs fine, but when I go into a program, say word, it brings up the same setup assistant screen which again stops functioning at the same spot.

Problems with reinstalling Office 2004 in iMac (Tiger 10.4.11)

I am also having problems reinstalling Office 2004 in an iMac with Tiger 10.4.11. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Our university through a campus agreement with microsoft allows us to download a .dmg file for installing Office 2004. I downloaded Office 2004 after removing the trial Office 2004 present in the iMac properly. The office 2004 got installed correctly in the Mac OS X Tiger and ran smoothly. It was also updated regularly.

Then after a few months, after several other software installations i started to have problems in running Word or Powerpoint with delays and messages about missing fonts etc. Getting vexed with these problems I removed Office 2004 folder and ran office removal tool to remove the previous installation. Then I manually checked for files with "microsoft" title and removed them all from all user directories. I repeated this removal and then tried to install Office 2004 again. But all manner of installing fails. The icons bounce in the dock for a fraction of a second and then disappears.

I have NeoOffice and iWorks08. These work nicely by themselves but fail to convert .doc or .ppt files created in Windows machines. Many persons in the office use Microsoft Windows and without Office 2004 I am unable to cope with that. I am waiting for Office 2008 but it is expensive.

Any help on re-installing Office 2004 will be most helpful.

I am having the exact same problem installing Office 2004. I spoke to both Apple and Microsoft and neither offered a decent solution.
