I have a copy of Windows XP SP2 that I got from my school via their MSDNAA program. The disc that was loaned to me was a burned copy, but I have an original CD key. I used that loaner disc to install windows fine via VMWare, but I now want to make a boot camp partition with Windows XP on it.

Before I gave the loaner CD back, I made a copy of the data files and burned it as an ISO (9660 Joliet, whatever that means). After using boot camp to repartition my drive, I hit "start installation" and then get the message "installer disc could not be found". Boot camp then asks me to reinsert the CD and try again, but no luck. I've also tried restarting and holding down the "C" key with the disc in, but the computer just goes right back into Mac OS.

So how can I get boot camp to "find" my installer disc?? Is the disc in the wrong format? Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

If you insert the CD in OS X, does it just contain 1 file as a .iso? If so, that is just an image, so you will need to use disc utility to burn the image to a CD.

Unfortunately, doing that will not result in a bootable disc. By only copying the files you saw as a mounted dsic, you didn't copy the actual boot image data.

You can try and go back and make it bootable by adding a boot image with something like MagicISO or Nero Burning Room, but it's probably easier to just get a proper copy of a Windows install disc

When I insert the disc, I get a "disc icon" that says "20080307". When I double click the disc, there are 12 files that I can see.

So I need to use MagicIso or Nero to make it a bootable? I'll try it on my friend's Windows PC and see what happens.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the help everyone! I was able to create a bootable disc using Nero (I got the bootable image online), and everything worked to perfection. Had to place a couple calls to the MS activation center, but all is well now.

I've got a 25gb Windows XP partition and I'm running it now via VMWare too! Hotness! Never would have figured it out without your help.

    Thanks again!
