Hello everyone. I own an older iMac 8,1 desktop. I am trying to install Catalina but running into problems. I am using dosdude1 patcher. Each time I reboot my system (after creating the bootable usb) I hold down the option key and boot from the usb which contains the OS X. It will run but stops halfway and a circle with a line through it comes up. I have to hard boot the system to return to El Capitan. I can't seem to get this to work. I have downloaded the OS X from the link in the patcher. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I wanted to include my system setup info. I am running 8g of ram and a non ssd hd. I can boot into recovery and normal boot but not the efi boot.

Sounds like it is kernel panicking during the install. You may need to consult the people who made the patch since this is _very_ unsupported activity.

That iMac is *ancient* and has obsolete processors (C2D) that will almost certainly never run Catalina. I am not up on the patching scene so I may be wrong about what's possible -- but I will contend it is a very bad idea to try this. Just install a supported OS and enjoy your machine. I think Snow Leopard is the end of line for the C2D Macs.
