I have got this problem too - started this morning. My iPhone updated to the latest version yesterday and this is the first time I’ve tried to send pictures since on messenger. Photos on email are fine. Help!

Fixed by 12/07. I had the same problem sending via Messenger directly from a picture. Reset phone, delete Messenger didn't solve. Started after upgrading to IOS version 17.1.2. Have current Messenger. Edit: seems to be Messenger. Send via Message didn't work at first but does now. Sends via email and to Facebook, and attaching a picture to Messenger sends. Apple agent's iphone on 17.1.1 had the problem. Agent noted that Messenger released a new version 5 days ago, about the same time as Apple released ios 17.1.2.

Yes , I'm having the same problem with sending screen shots . Anyone no why ?

I am experiencing this too! Started this morning. Frustrating!
I contacted Apple and they me to delete the messenger app! Said it wasn’t them! I haven’t because I don’t want to lose my history, but I have discovered that I can send pictures directly from messenger but can’t select them from photos to send.

That's what I found out I can do to , I'm just use to sending from my photos directly

It's Meta's fault. If you use the same method but choose Viber instead (in the Share function inside Photos app) then the image gets through Viber. You have to use the internal Photo Send function in Messenger, that works well. We have to wait until they fix the bug.

We are experiencing the same thing. Thank you, Claire51, for the workaround advice.

Definitely getting this error since the upgrade to 17.1.2

Hi Claire, I’ve sent photos the same way and it works but, cannot select photos from Photos and then send them via Messenger. Like you, I am NOT going to delete the Messenger app.

I have spent all day trying to resolve this problem... (not very tech minded) but been searching for solutions and nothing has worked. This is the only forum I have seen that even mentions the error message (as illustrated by Silver 78) that I keep getting when trying to send photos from photo library or screenshots via facebook messenger today. My iphone is still on IOS 16.7.2 which states is up to date. I contacted Apple they said I needed to contact the App developer.. facebook. I have been unsuccessful in finding anywhere I can actually contact them. So are you all saying we have to wait as there is a bug somewhere and is that with Apple or Messenger?

As Claire51 said " I have discovered that I can send pictures directly from messenger but can’t select them from photos to send."

Yes sending directly from the Messenger app works!!! Thank for the solution!!!

Seems like it was a glitch on one of the systems after all.. I wasted my time yesterday trying to sort it... its all good today all working as it should do. Might have helped if Apple had been aware of this problem and would have told me to wait it out though... I did contact them to find a solution and support... which they didnt really do did they.

As Claire51 said " I have discovered that I can send pictures directly from messenger but can’t select them from photos to send."
yes thank you for that information. I did already know that was working. I was concerned it was my phone that had gone wrong in some way so was glad to see this forum where others had the same problem with messenger.

I only started experiencing problems TODAY, right after updating iOS to 17.2. (Ignore whatever my sig says - I keep forgetting to update that every time I update iOS and macOS!) Messenger pretends to send the picture, but the recipient doesn't see it at all. If I RECEIVE a picture over Messenger, I just get a black box where the picture should be. If I go to Facebook on the web, the picture I was supposed to receive is there.

UPDATE: I did something smart and tried some basic troubleshooting. Reboot didn't help, but deleting and reinstalling Messenger did.
