Problems viewing video on iMovie

When viewing imported movies on iMovie, the movies continually freeze for split seconds every other second or so. I can view the clips using Finder (outside of iMovie) with no problems so it seems like it is an iMovie problem. Is there a patch or update I need ? Problem started a few months back after months of no problems. Same camera used throughout. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the inquiry. If I understand your question correctly, all of the movie clips are saved as .mov files. If that was not your question let me know and I will try and answer correctly. Thanks.

It freezes when I play the clips (press play/space bar). It literally freezes for a split second and then continues for a second and then freezes again for a split second. The sound also starts and stops with the movie clip.
