I have an iPad 6th generation. After the latest update 17.7.7 I’ve been having problems with certain, but not all apps. Wikipedia, Duck Duck Go, Letterboxd and others. Every time I open them it’s like the first time and I have to sign up or do a tour of the app. I can’t seem to do anything about it. Any ideas?

I tried to revert my iPad Pro 10.5 cellular to 17.7.6 using the IPSW file from ipsw.me. During setup, I came to a screen saying Update Now to 17.7.7 and could not find a way to skip it. Now stuck with 17.7.7 again.

Update: it is necessary to turn off all automatic update features on the iPad before reverting to 17.7.6. Currently restoring from backup on my Mac made under 17.7.6. Seems to be going well.

I've experienced the same problems as the OP. Also, when Safari is restarted all the options for edit the start page are turned ON! I normally run with only Reading List and iCloud Tabs.

Will try to revert to my most recent backup of 17.7.6 on my Mac.

I tried to restore from the iPad backup on my Mac after making sure auto update was turned off and the iCloud backup from last night was deleted. The restore reinstalled 17.7.7. Were you successful and how?

Thanks.

After downloading the IPSW file from ipsw.me for my model, I went back to Finder, pressed and held Alt/Option, then clicked on Restore. That let me navigate to the downloaded IPSW. Once that was installed, I set up the iPad as new, now running 17.7.6, then restored from my local backup.

One little hitch: during the backup restoration, Sync stalled after copying all my music files. I closed the Finder window, unplugged the iPad, plugged it back in, and opened a Finder window. Sync again copied all the music files, but this time succeeded.

As an iPad 6th gen owner on 17.7.6 I have to say thanks for the warning! (Auto-update off)
It's just sad and embarassing to see what Apple misses when releasing new updates (or what they rather focus on instead).

I am on 17.5.1 on my 10.5, it askes me to update to 17.7.6. I guess I won't take the risk and stay where I am...
On my 11" I am on 17.7.1 and I'ld definitely stay there... forever, no interest in going to 18 on that first gen device.

Thanks for this. I thought there must be a way to get the IPSW file from Apple! When I looked at ipsw.me they wanted my credit card number before I could download the "free" version of the ipsw. (I don't like doing this: Apple has allowed its software to be put behind a third-party pay-wall. I see at least one other company selling access to ipsw software. Interesting. I admit was naive.)

I had modified settings in almost every app (including Safari!) that are now reset every time I launch one. This 17.7.7 update has rendered my old gen 6 iPad so inconvenient to use that I want to (needlessly) upgrade my device. If I were a conspiracy theorist . . .

I'm surprised there haven't been more posts to this thread. Quite a few users must have been affected.
Anyone seen any other relevant threads?

Edit: the main thread is https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ts-of-app-login-issues-updated.2457165/page-2.

Apple has pulled 17.7.7. I wish I could believe 17.7.8 (?) will fix the problem.

Have never had this happen to me on ipsw.me. Simple and free download for all my devices this week, including the roll-back to 17.7.6 a few days ago, SE 2020 update a few minutes ago as well.

Sure you went to the correct site? Some extension that is re-directing traffic?

Thanks very, very much! I must have clicked a wrong link somewhere. The 17.7.6 ipsw is downloading to my iPad now. I have never had to recover my iPad (much less restore an earlier version). Could you point me to a good guide for going this?

Hey iPad users! I know you’re having trouble with apps not saving their data.

In regards to updating to iPadOS 18, it is out of the question for anyone with a 6th or 5th-generation iPad or an iPad Pro from before 2018. But I have a few questions to see if it’s a bug or something else.

Did you back up your data before downgrading or updating to iPadOS 17.7 using Finder or iCloud?

Was your iPad reset in any way or put in recovery mode and restored?

Did you delete the apps and then reinstall them?

And for those of you with supported devices that can run iPadOS 18, have you tried any beta versions or TestFlight apps?

You can login with any Apple ID to the Developer Portal and download the latest IPSW. Just agree and skip everything after that and click on Software Downloads. Then scroll down the list. Not sure why only the RC of 17.7.6 is in there. Maybe it's identical to the final version.

Does anyone know why iOS 17.6.1 for all iOS 18 capable iPhones still is in there? Is that version still signed?

Thanks! (I was mistaken about my inability to access ipsw.me without giving them my credit card number. A moderator on the thread I posted to pointed this out. I made a mistake accessing that site. Apologies.)

Apple has pulled 17.7.7 which is probably why only 17.7.6 is there. I don't know about the RC, but hope the version I downloaded through Ipsw.me is the final version.

Only the latest update and the previous release are signed, iOS 18.5 and iOS 18.4.1, but if it's already 1 week since iOS 18.5 was released, then you can no longer install iOS 18.4.1
