problems with "checking for updates" in itunes

Have any of you guys had problems with itunes not finding updates for the apps in your library?

I have a collection of 290 apps, and when i check for updates, itunes says there are none, but I know that some of the apps I have are updated.

my iphone sees the updates and recognizes them, but for obvious/organizational reasons, i do carry all the apps on my phone at once. I have about 50 3rd party apps on my phone right now.

I have bouts of the opposite problem - iTunes or the App Store on the iPhone show me apps they say have updates that have already been installed. I had that quite a lot early last week. I haven't seen it again in the last few days.
