guys, just file a class action suit.

If there are enough of you guys, the lawyers would do it on a contigency fee basis, meaning they only get a share of your settlement and you pay nothing upfront.

I never sign up for promotional offers and never will. They stink of fraud. (badly)

New Reply from Citibank

Citibank has finally responded to my claim of NOT receiving the ipod. They said in writing, "Unfortunately, there has been an inadvertent delay in fulfilling the promotion for the Apple ipod mini, which was offered for the opening of your checking account. Please be assured that we have confirmed that you have qualified for the promotion, and we will resolve the matter as soon as possible. We will send you written correspondence once the Apple iPod mini as been shipped."
What does this mean? This seems pretty open ended to me. DOES ANYONE HAVE A COPY OF THE CONTRACT ORIGINALLY OFFERED WITH THIS IPOD PROMOTION? If you do, could please post it. If I remember correctly, it should have been sent to me after 5 months. Thanks.

This is crazy. Citibank claims that they shipped it to me via Fedex? and I wasn't there for a signature. There was NO slip left that said I missed a package or something like that.
Right now they said they are going to ship another one? I'm just lost in this whole situation.

Past Citibank Promotion Story

Oddly enough, I once had a relatively problem-free  experience with a Citibank promotion:

Many moons ago, I responded to an offer from Citibank. They were launching a new program called CitiFI (Financial Interactive, I think) which I guess was one of their earlier attempts at online banking.

I was promised a new Palm IIIe (still moderately new technology at the time) for signing up. I believe there was a six- or twelve-month requirement in order to not violate the terms of the free offer. Well, after only a few months I received a letter from CitiFI thanking me for my patronage but also notifying me that the the CitiFI service was being shut down. I had the option of either closing the account completely or opening a regular Citibank account. I consulted with a decently polite customer service representative (those were the days!) to ask if I could keep the Palm Pilot at no charge regardless of which option I chose. He indicated it was mine to keep, so (after taking down his name and the date/time of the conversation) I cancelled the account completely and got to keep my first post-Newton PDA!

Several years later when Citi took over CalFed Bank, I once again became a Citibank customer. This time, Citibank nickeled-and-dimed me to death with all their fees.

For those of you swearing off Citibank for their poor service, consider not moving to another profit-minded corporate bank. I've had few regrets since leaving Citibank and joining a local credit union.

I would argue that credit union interest rates are competitive, and instead of shipping off your hard-earned cash to some corporate fatcat in Delaware, credit unions will generally invest your money back into your community, and that can't hurt anyone, right?

Anyway, just a thought. :)

It's quite unlikely that FedEx showed up 3 times, without you being home, AND not leaving the yellow post-it. I'd bet that they've never sent it. If they continue to give you a hassle, ask them to provide the tracking number for the "supposed" original shipment. Dollars to donuts, they won't be able to provide one.

Well some good news,
I received a letter today from their "investigation department" and they gave me a tracking number in the eMail.
It appears that the iPod will come this Monday, August 1st!
Im hoping for the best :)

Thanks everyone,
Paul

I did recieve my iPod eventually, (the 4GB extended battery version). Here is some e-mail conversion's concerning this subject. I believe the delivery requirement was 90 days after the second statement in which 2 bills were paid. So 5 months is the minimum for this I believe. I recieved mine about 4 1/2 months after opening the account.

Regards,
Jeremy

congratulations to your new ipod.

i don't wanna be the wise guy but here's a word of caution:

better do not post your real name on an open internet forum. especially not in connection with any banking information containing reference numbers, telephone numbers or names of your contacts. its sad but this is the internet.

That's the thing about it, sign up for something when both parties agree it's worth $250 -- and the deal is worth $250.

Doesn't matter if the retail value of the product drops to $50 before it gets to your door.

Because of the deal you signed up for, they can still ask for the original amount that you agreed to -- no matter what the difference is.

It was worth $250 to both of you when you signed up, and it's worth $250 to THEM when you break the deal.

So right you are. The contract is based on the date that all parties agreed to the terms. Unless there was a specific performance clause, the 15 day delay is not abnormal - and could be deemed acceptable in the courts.

Most of these companies pray that the retail price drops before they have to ship anyways, at least they aren't sending you warehouse clearance items that most companies would try foisting off on you -- because they got a lucky break.

Yes and no. As witnessed by this thread, price drops can wreck havoc with the company making the offer.

The thing that Citi should/could have done was to offer a $50 credit towards banking fees to those that felt the deal was less than what was initially offered.

Strange... UPS has scheduled delivery for today (Aug 1) and it hasn't been delivered. It shows an arrival scan since last friday, but no delivery... Is CitiBank up to something again? :(

Thank goodness I found this thread. I thought I might have been alone with this frustrating issue. I too am still waiting for my free i-pod and have also made numerous phone calls. CSR's always say "I apologize for this". I've grown tired of their automatic apology. They sound robotic. I too have an incident number now and found out this week that my account was opened incorrectly! But "they apologize for this" and have corrected it. No word except another 30-90 days to wait for my ipod. It's August for crying out loud. I teeter on getting the ipod and closing my account in 12 months because it's the principle of the matter and just saying forget it- this wasn't worth it.

Not trying is wondering your whole life whether you gave up too soon.

Same story with me. Over 5 months since opening the account. Running an investigation as to why ipod not shipped. What losers.

My iPod was supposed to have been shipped about a month ago. They opened an investigation, blah blah blah. I called last week on Friday, and they told me they had just sent that BS letter about not having them in stock.

So I called a number that was posted in another forum, for the Executive Communications Unit. I talked to Katherine, who said she would look into it. She called back yesterday, and gave me a tracking number. Thanks to her, the iPod was shipped last Friday, the same day I talked to her (which was the same day those idiots told me it was out of stock and it would be a few weeks).

Here's the number: (916) 374-6060. If she asks, tell her Citibank customer service gave you the number.

Good luck!

satisfy citibank's 20+ conditions or pay up

after satisfying citibanks 20+ conditions, I was told that they have no ipods to ship so i need to keep on waiting. if I fail to follow through on evn oone of their stipulations, they can bill me $250
they had only 1 condition to satisfy (sending an ipod mini) and did not follow through but apparently they suffer no penalty when they do not hold up their side fo the bargain.

you are all right - that those offers smell of fraud. never again.

citibank now spells "fraud" to me and I will be out of there as soon as I am released from my bondage. i just wonder whether i'll have the ipod or not by that time.

grrrrrr citibank sucks

Look's like all the people waiting for a iPod Mini won't be getting it now.

At least now we know why Citibank was having problems getting more. :p
