I have searched the threads for an answer, but found none for my issue.

I downloaded the new Google Earth app to our new iMac (20", 2.4Gz, 2Gb). It started up fine and looked OK at first. As I zoomed in, the images began to fragment and scramble. The closer I go, the worse it gets. I tried adjusting settings and preferences in both the app and on the iMac. Nothing seemed to work.

Any ideas? Oh, it was the latest version, 4.2 something, with the sky images.

Thanks for any replies.

Fragment and scramble - sounds like tearing, a common sign of a graphics card overheating. Either that or the data from Google has come in scrambled somehow. Anything else you can describe? I'm on a 2.0Ghz machine and having just downloaded Google Earth I found no problems with it.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will just try to download again. Perhaps it was just something in the file. It seems that I am quite alone in having problems with Google Earth as most folks I have talked to away from these forums have had no problems either.
I don't think it is an overheating problem as I have plenty of open space around the iMac and no other problems have cropped up with any other applications or web sites.
I shall persevere.

Problem with Google Earth

How about this one - After using Google Earth for a few minutes, it will zoom in or out or fly away indefinitely and will not stop unless I click on the center of the navigating dial, almost as if the fly sim was on and stuck... is there any way to avoid this? I thought this would be cache-related (I have a Macbook, late 2007 with GMA X3100) but I do not think that is the issue.

Oh and it only happens after using it for a short while... never on the first few moves...

Thanks in advance.

Frustrated with Google Earth

New Mac in summer 2012 - largest iMac with higher end processor, memory, graphic card, video memory, etc. Should be no shortchanging there. Google Earth has NEVER worked correctly on it ... auto zoom outs like one poster noted; crashes on clicking on any links to WWW, to view a picture larger than the little pop up boxes. NOW ... it crashes upon launch ... never get opportunity to execute any command ...screens appear ... hold a second; & die. I tried ALL of the Google Mac troubleshooting - delete cashe, prefs, app support, plist, etc. Tried uninstalling/ installing different versions .. that used to work. No results. See a LOT of people with similar complaints. I checkjed into buying Google Earth Pro ... figureing OK .. .I"ll PAY for support. It's $400 / YEAR!!!! I suggest we ALL begin spreading the word over the internet via tagging ALL comments anywhere; all emails; facebook, twitter, etc. with the statememt: "Google Earth is a Fail for Macs"

Google Earth has generally worked for me. Did you try creating a new user account and testing Google Earth under that?
