Hey,

I recently purchased an old power mac server running 9.2.4, and I want to get it running mac 10.3. I've already purcased the cds. When I put the disk into my mac, it asks me to restart the machine to install the new version. When the computer restarts however, it goes to the starting grey screen with the apple logo and a small circling symbol...and just stays there forever. I've tryed holding the 'c' key down while starting the computer but it doesn't change anything. I've also tryed holding down 'command, alt, o, and f, and then tried booting up the cd from there but that didn't work either. If anyone out there has any idea how to fix this problem, I'd really appreciate your help.

Are they retail 10.3? NOT machine specific? Not that it may matter, but just in case.

And if you are getting the grey Apple, its booting OS X and does take a long time from CD. If your pushing ten minutes though, thats too long. What's inside the machine? And PCI cards and such. Could be a conflict.

First of all, I thought 9.2.2 was the last version of Mac OS 9, not 9.2.4
Secondly, have you verified your disk? You can do this using the Disk First Aid tool in your Utilities folder, while booted into Mac OS 9. Third, do other discs not work? If so, you may have a problem with the drive. Finally, have you checked the disc for scratches or other imperfections? These may be causing the disc to not work, if they are present.

Have you installed the latest firmware update? what type of power mac is it? G3? G4?

Gambling here a bit...

Maybe it is AppleShare IP 6.2.4 running on Mac OS 9.2.2...?

And, seriously.... the type of G3 the OP is referring to is very important.

Beige G3 Tower or Desktop?
G3 iMac?
Power Mac G3 Blue and White?
