I have a MacBook Pro 13" late 2013 Retina with 10.10.1 and an iPhone 5s.

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I cannot use my iPhone as a hotspot. Before Yosemite, I would select it as a WiFi option. Now with Instant Hotspot it shows up under the same menu but under its own section. I am signed into both my Mac and iPhone with the same iCloud account. I have tried signing out of both and back in. No matter what I can't connect. It tries connecting and then I get a message a minute later saying "Failed to enable Hotspot."

I can still connect to my iPhone's hotspot via my ChromeBook, however. I believe this is an iCloud issue. Instant Hotspot supposedly makes it easier to connect to your iPhone by letting you bypass turning on Personal Hotspot and entering a WiFi passcode.

However, since I can't get Instant Hotspot to work, I'd rather just use it the way it was--Personal Hotspot, but that does not show up.

    Any advice?

For what it's worth you might want to try turning iPhone's messaging and FaceTime on & off. My problem was the other way round – the phone would not show up in its own section, and doing that seemed to fix it.

If you can get it working correctly, it is more convenient using instant hotspot.

I was having a similar problem wherein my Instant Hotspot wouldn't work (although I *could* get Personal Hotspot working). Sure enough, using LV426's method worked like a charm and now my Instant Hotspot works exactly as it should. Thanks LV426!!!

What I also do now is before using hotspot is switching to aircraft mode then off again and I seem to connect most times and the connection is also definitely quicker.

Not ideal seeing as the feature of 'instant' is meant to not involve any intervention to use it but so tired of the frustrations of trying to use it like that.

Sometimes mine doesn't work, and I think I've determined that my mbp is trying to connect to the hotspot through bluetooth instead of wifi. So I just turn bluetooth off until it connects with wifi. It's a minor hassle but oh well.
