I got this new Lacie 250GB Porche firewire drive and I've been trying to back up my files (Applications, LIbrary, System, and Users folders) using the Lacie Backup software it came with.

Anyone else have problems with this software? It's freezing ALL THE TIME and when it's not freezing it's finished the next day and tells me about a TON of files it could not copy over.

Any quality alternative or am I doing something wrong? I'm backing up the 45GB of data on my 60BGB PowerBook drive.

I use SuperDuper for monthly full disk image, and weekly user account backups. For daily backups I sync my documents to a ThumbDrive using Chronosync. Both these applications have stood the test of time for me.

Leopard will give me automated backups via Time Machine, but I will probably still follow my routine above, just to be really really sure ;)

I gave up on it. Bought SuperDuper (works great), will be running Time Machine by... 8pm Friday night? Still likely to make a SuperDuper onto an otherwise useless (small) external drive.

I just got me a 1tb lacie firewire800 harddisk and the included backup software is plain unusable - a bad joke basically, never seen a more retarded and user-unfriendly POS software! made me ponder whether I should return the whole thing, I was really mad
but classical really - so often the software that is included with hardware is just total trash

i use Synk - a light and simple program that still does all I need, cheap too, especially I you're student :)
