    Hi guys,

I'm faced with a problem with my intel core 2 duo macbook pro from 2006.
Though I've had some hardware based problems before I'm quite puzzled now as to what the cause of my current problems is.

As I boot up the macbook, it takes ages to get from the login screen to fully working. Once up and running, finder will not work properly, I'm not able to preform basic tasks as emptying the trash.

When using safari I can surf for 20 seconds before the system freezes up, and I'm not able to access any of the options at the top of the screen.

I've tried using the disk utility program, but it will not launch.

I'm now trying to at least 'save' some of my music by putting the macbook into target disk mode, but every time I've copied more than 200mb or so, the copying process will stop and the only way to get the macbook to work again is to restart it.

I'm afraid my harddrive is dead, but before I turn it in for repairs (still got 2 months of applecare left), is there anybody who recognises this problem or that knows a way to at least salvage my 50g music library?

    Thanks in advance!
