First I have to say the Ipod mini belongs to my teen & I really don't know much about them. My computer had to be replaced, but we transferred all of the my music folder to the new puter & itunes is all set up and working. When I connect her Ipod, windows keeps asking what I want to do when I connect it & open itunes is not an option. Itunes & the Ipod don't seem to see each other. Any suggestions???

If her music is backed up, which it seems to be, and you're using the latest version of iTunes (7.0.1), which you should be - if you're not you should download and install it right now, then you should do a restore on the iPod.

Open iTunes, click on the iPod in the source list and on the summary page will be a button labelled "Restore" - it will wipe the iPod clean and reload all the software. You'll have to reload all your music but it should fix up any conflicts you're having with the iPod.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I reinstalled the original software that came with the ipod. It's an ipod +hp. Then I installed the itunes 7 from the website. When I look at the programs list, it shows the ipod updater from 03/23/2005. That's from the cd that came with it. I think the original version of itunes was 4.something. I'm willing to do the restore on the ipod, but am wondering if this updater thing will still be an issue???

You won't be able to use the iPod Software Updater app because iTunes handles this task now. Are you sure the iPod isn't showing up (even briefly) in iTunes? Is iTunes open when you plug it in?

If you still aren't getting anywhere then select it in Explorer, right click on it, Format Disk as FAT32, then let iTunes restore the firmware. :)

Thanks for the help! After I formatted it, it finally started working with itunes again. I will have a very happy teen tonight.
