macOS Problems with NSPathControl styles

For the first time, I'm using an NSPathControl in one of my apps. Now when I use the Pop Up style, and the user selects "Choose," it gives the user an open panel. However, when I choose either of the other styles, nothing happens when the user clicks on the path control. Is this expected? Do I have to create a double-click action for it if I wanna use one of the other styles, or is there a setting that I need to adjust?
