So, to recap: no TRIM support for OS X, but even without it, the new Intel shows no appreciable degradation, or the degradation brings it to a level still somewhat above a standard HDD. And as far as long-term storage, your data will be retained at least as long as a HDD will last. So the only real-world issue at this point is price. Correct?
 
Life expectancy for the Intel X-25M G2 is rated @ 1.2 million hours Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF). Which works out to 136.99 years of continuous use... you'll be fine. I know I'm enjoying my X25-M in my uMBP :)

how do you know he will be fine? what if he wants to pass the mbp with the intel x-25m ssd to his grandson, and the grandson just happens to be using it to calculate the projectile path of the earth missile defense against the cylon invasion when the ssd's "Mean Time Before Failure" were reached causing the mbp to fail? Then earth will be lost!

ribbon, if i were you i would definitely be concerned about the life expectancy of your intel ssd, after all humanity depends on it!
