I am pretty new to Mac and just discovered the joys of Spaces. Sometimes when I use Word 2008, however, when I am switching between spaces (say Word is on Space 4 and Firefox is on Space 1) then randomly the Word document I am working on will switch to another space. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or do I just have to deal?

the 10.5.4 update supposedly fixed this known issue... in my experience, it still happens from time to time. Basically Spaces and Word 2008 still don't play nicely... either deal with it and wait for it to be properly fixed, or use Word 2004, which doesn't have those issues.

Yep. Spaces and Word 2008 don't play nice. There's a whole series of threads on the Microsoft Office Word 2008 forum talking about the same problem you're having.

The standard answer from the MS MVPs is "it's broken". We'll just have to wait until MS addresses this in a service pack - that along with several other important issues which need fixing.

Regards.

Workaround to the Space problem

I found a workaround to the Spaces problem. If you switch Word to the background of another running program before you go to another space, Word will always be a good boy waiting for you in the same place. Not sure if it will fulfill everyone's needs, but it works pretty well for me.

I'm running OS 10.5.6 and Word 2008 12.1.5 (081119). I have this issue on a daily basis. Basically, I click in Word and Spaces shoots off to some other Space. It also happens a lot when I click the Formatting Palette. Usually just moves the document or Palette to another window. Not only annoying, but very random. To me it's pretty unacceptable that such a common and blatantly annoying bug could be going on for so long, but it seems most fingers point to Microsoft, go figure. Just thought I'd share.

Office 2008 doesn't work well on Spaces; just set Office programs to space #1

Sorry, guys. :( It's a known issue, and it's Apple's to fix. We've even shown them our code to see if they can offer a workaround that we can implement now. That resulted in some changes to both our code and Leopard which got rid of some of it, but that didn't fix everything.

ahhhhahaha all these problems stem from Microsofts programmers' incapability to learn codes other than VB, .Net and C Sharp.
Coconut and Xcode rules.

Agreed.

Word 2011?

I have posted a new thread regarding this, but I was wondering if this is the same issue.
I'm using word 2011, with 10.6.7.
When I use spaces, sometimes i get flipped form one to another in word.

Google jumping spaces.
