I purchased mine last Friday and used it all weekend for a good variety of tasks. So far, so good. :)

Well, apart from the screens on the 20 inchers.

Images look absolutely fantastic, but there's a clear shift in the colours at the bottom and top of the screen which you'll notice when working in OS X.

I'm glad to hear that they seem to be okay so far... I've just ordered one for my parents. Hopefully this will bring them some problem free computing for a while...

I just got my 20 inch tonight. It had a 3 blown pixels right in the middle. That was annoying, but the more I used the 20 inch, the more I didn't like the display. I've been using a cinema display for 4 years, so going to the 20 inch TN display felt like I was going backwards. So I contacted Apple and exchanged it for the 24 inch to get the better display.

But, to be clear, I think the 20 inch is fantastic and will work for most everyone. If I didn't get spoiled by the cinema display, I would have kept it. It's still better than most computers out there today.

The 20" really looks a lot better once calibrated. For some reason, Apple is shipping the new iMacs with a ColorSync profile that is artificially bright. Maybe it's to give them more sizzle in the store, I don't know, but the exaggerated gamma pushes the mid-tones too high. The result is washed-out color and a gradient crush on the bright end of the spectrum.

Anyway, I created a new ColorSync profile using an i1 Display 2 hardware calibrator and posted it here. I think it makes my 20" look a lot better than it did out of the box, yet it is still very, very bright.

I currently have a disc stuck in my drive and the computer won't start up. It is stick on the white screen. I did restart it once with no problems, just after I ran Apple update. Ah the glory fades already. Any ideas. Apple surface is closed in Canada.

    Thanks

Thanks so much for posting that. I like your calibration. The iMac did not have a crisp picture out of the box but with Alloye's file, it looks awesome. I am so happy with my iMac. Quite the step up from a G5 1.8 Ghz iMac.
    No complaints.

I was very concerned about the glossy screen but now that I have it, I love it!! And I do lots of video editing. This thing is GREAT!!

No problem with mine thus far

I also liked the Calibration done above and even inspired me to try calibrating myself

If anyone is interested in the results mine is attached below.

Everything seems to work ok on mine but one thing. When I go to browse the iTunes store seems to happen in the Music Video section for some reason. It freezes up everything, I can only move the mouse around, but cant do anything. Seems the only thing you can do is Shut it down by holding the button down. Any Idea's weather or not this is a iTunes bug or the computer? Ive never seen a program freeze up Mac os X before is what is bothering me. Im not having any problems with anything else at all though.

I had that once, where my old iMac was trying to boot from the CD and was stuck on the first white screen.

You just have to leave it and wait a long time (about 20 minutes) and eventually it gives up and boots into OSX.

Mine arrived with a tiny scratch on the screen, a noisy fan, and a screen that flickered. I'm currently awaiting the replacement they're sending.

Good so far here for the most part. I've run into two bits of weirdness so far: First, after about 10 minutes of use on the first boot-up the dock wouldn't pop up -- it just would not register, even when I un-hid it manually I couldn't click on anything. Had to restart. Next, VLC crashes on me when trying to play anything. Not sure what's causing that but I'll try and figure it out later. Could be a problem with the Divx codec or something.

I got the 20" 2.4 and you can't hear that it's on at all, as opposed to my G5 iMac which made plenty of noise.

I got the 24" yesterday and it's a beautiful machine. I popped 2 x 2gb DIMMs in it and it smokes.
My main box up-until-now was a 17" MBP with the matte screen. I was a little concerned about the glossy screen on the iMac but, no worrys, I don't even notice it. The screen is AWESOME! Oh, and my MBP is louder and hotter than the iMac!

Yep, I've calibrated until I'm blue in the face. It looks far better than it did out of the box, but can't eliminate the difference between the top an the bottom.

Look at the left side of the blue Aqua image on your desktop. It's a slightly dirty blue at the top and a bright blue at the bottom on mine. Does everyone else see the same thing?

I've got a 24" 2.4G, 320G retail model and the only problem I'm having is tearing myself away from it for long enough to eat! :D

    Fantastic piece of engineering!

What was your replacement process like. I was told I would get an email with a printable return FedEx label inside 12-24 hours and I should wait 12-24 hours after I send it to call Apple with the tracking # at which time they will begin to build my BTO replacement - approx 2 days to do that, and once ready, they will ship it ground again, though I may get it 2 day instead. That seems like more waiting than it should be.

    Love my 20"!!!

My 20" screen does not have any problems. It seems to be the same quality screen that is in my G5 Imac, and that worked fine for me. If I were to stand above the computer an look down on it the colors change but I have never done that in the past and dont seeing this being an issue in the future.

I am way more happy than I thought I would be. I was so worried about the screen, (being glossy and slightly lower quality) and the keyboard but I LOVE both of them!!

My brother in a law is a computer animator and saw the computer and thought it was awesome! He had no issues with the glossy screen either!

Anybody on the edge of buying one, I would say go for it!

After using the machine for 5 minutes I noticed the problems and called Apple and described them. The woman I spoke to was very apologetic I had received a faulty machine. She told me I could keep the faulty iMac until the new one arrived, and five days after as well to allow me to transfer any information. I agreed and she created a replacement and said the replacement would be "released" once I signed and emailed or faxed her an agreement she emailed me. The agreement basically said that if I kept both machines and never arranged for the faulty one to be collected then Apple could charge me for both machines. I told her this was fine and that I'd fax it back the following day when I was in the office.

However, after trying to use the machine for an hour the constant thunk, thunk, thunk from the faulty fan was too much and I decided I couldn't use it at all even for a week or so. I mailed her back and told her I couldn't use this machine at all, and asked if they could just collect it as soon as possible and send the new one out as soon as it was ready. She replied saying this was fine and that she had "released" the replacement so it would ship immediately when ready, and that the delivery company would contact me on Monday to arrange collection (it was Friday at the time).

The delivery company called me on Monday and I told them to collect on Friday as I'll be off that day. My replacement currently says it should ship on the 17th and be delivered by the 21st or 22nd. My replacement order was created on Friday shortly after I got the email, so she did release it immediately as far as I can tell, rather than waiting for the broken one to be collected.
