Hello,

I just purchased a 160GB Western Digital My Passport external HD to use with time machine.

Every time i attempt to back up I get the following message.

TIME MACHINE ERROR
Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume.

This always happens when the back up reaches 7.74 GB.

I have used the Disk utility repair feature on my hard drive and also re-formated the back up, but I am still having problems.

Any suggestions to help? Should I return this hard drive and get a new one?

Let me know- thanks!

Yes, I formatted it that way.

You need to repartition the drive using the GIUD Partition Table format. Currently, it is set to Master Boot Record (for Windows PCs).

To do this, go to Disk Utility and under the Partition tab, select the 1 Partition scheme (or how many partitions you want). Now navigate to the Options button and select the top option (GUID Partition Table). Now partition the drive. When it's done, the info at the bottom should state the new partition scheme.

Thanks. I did this, still fails at the same spot. Is it the drive or is it my computer?

Let me know what you think.
