I have a Lacie 80 GB external hard drive, and haven't been as careful as I should have in making sure that it's treated properly. In some programs I use (filesharing programs, for example), the drive is listed with a number following it. Every time my drive is unplugged accidentally, a new number is assigned to it. This can get pretty irritating, as I am now on "Lacie 10." Although most of my files remain safe, some files, like the ones I recently obtained through filesharing, are lost. Are there any ways to rename the drive and change the number following it? Also, are there any ways to recover the files I have lost?

I am a newbie, so sorry for asking what I'm sure is a dumb question. Although I would assume this is a common problem, I haven't been able to find any advice or solutions so far.

You should be able to rename it by either ctrl clicking (right clicking) on it in the finder window and selecting rename, or highlighting it on the desktop (if it is displayed there when mounted) and pressing the return key.

As I mentioned, the number that the drive is assigned shows only in certain programs, and not when it is displayed in the Finder, etc., where it just appears as "Lacie." Therefore, I can't rename it using the Finder. The assigned number shows in some circumstances, while in others it is not there and the directory appears the same as it was before.
